The Anvil Institute is committed to creating environments for education, dialogue empowerment and community building. All of our initiatives are geared towards preparing faith communities to participate in the creation of their own political voice and to build power.
Faith Based Voter Initiatives - WDFO
This initiative strategically leverages Faith Based
organizational infrastructure and people power to secure the political and social needs of its members. We work with faith based communities to activate internal resources to identify, recruit, develop, and support candidates for elected offices, staff positions, and
agency leadership.
○ We’ll Do It For Ourselves (WDFO) - The "We'll Do It For Ourselves!"
(WDFO) initiative is the central component of the AME Social Action
Agenda. The campaign is structured around six core objectives to
maximize internal organization and external impact:
Anvil Institute Research and Development Center
Serve as the engine for knowledge creation, driving the production of white papers, foundational research, and evidence-based policy proposals. This element is essential for developing educational
materials and creating a rigorous base of evidence that aligns with Free African Principles, enabling the Institute to translate complex analysis into actionable community solutions and strategic messaging.
â—‹ Investing In Black Power Study - In partnership with the USC Cecil Murray Center, the Anvil institute is conducting a study, white paper and convening on the critical role of investment in Black Social and Political Power.
Civic Engagement Tools and Tech
With the help of technology, we develop tools and
resources that help make civic engagement and political action accessible to everyday people. Whether navigating your next voting ballot or trying to find your place in the world of civic engagement, we are always working to develop tools that make it simple, accessible and people centered.

Silver Surrogates
This Intergenerational Leadership Development initiative is a vital program dedicated to creating a space of empowerment and value for seniors who still want to be deeply involved in liberation work. By drawing upon the wisdom and historical experience of Free African People, it ensures that the voices of elders are centered in the movement for Social Justice, Economic Empowerment, and Ethical Governance. This program strategically positions seniors as key assets in translating policy analysis into actionable community solutions and building political capital. Silver Surrogate members will participate in direct engagement with civic leaders and elected officials, volunteer and part-time contracting opportunities and placements in various civic leadership service roles.
